SOUNDS
SOUNDS is a collection of recent works by writer and photographer Gert Richter. The works are created on the basis of original photographs and designed in the spirit of Abstract Expressionism.
Abstract Expressionism Photography is in the tradition of artists such as Aaron Siskind, a New York photographer who was friends with painters such as Franz Kline, Mark Rothko and Willem de Kooning. Abstract Expressionist artists create reflections of their inner world and are oriented toward directness and immediacy of expression.
'To us, art is an adventure into an unknown world of the imagination which is fancy-free and violently opposed to common sense.' Mark Rothko in a letter to the New York Times, 1943.
Gert Richter, the author of SOUNDS, says about his work: 'For me, Abstract Photography means to have a different, unique view of the world. I'm searching for the substance behind the obvious form, colour and light of everday objects. Abstract photographs trigger emotions, thoughts, dreams, feelings. My work is not the result of blind chance at all.'
A selection of the works shown here has been exhibited as part of the Romanshorn Culture Days 2022.
All images in the book are Abstract Expressionism Photographs by Gert Richter. Numbered and handsigned prints 40 x 40 cm on Hahnemühle PhotoRag in gallery quality are available. The edition for each image is limited to 10 copies.
